Accepting the award for Sealaska Anthony Mallot, Albert Kookesh and Joe Nelson

Sealaska was named “Philanthropic Business of the Year” by the Juneau Community Foundation, the foundation’s highest honor awarded to area businesses.

Sealaska invests its wealth to benefit of Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian people and communities. Sealaska has a long history of significant giving:

  • Over $32.6 million has been donated to Sealaska Heritage Institute to perpetuate Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian culture
  • Sealaska has awarded more than $16.4 million in education scholarships
  • Leadership set aside $10 million in 2018 to add to the scholarship endowment fund, bringing the principal fund amount to $15.7 million
  • In 2018, Sealaska directors approved funding the Deishu Memorial Fund
  • Also, in 2018 Sealaska launched a community and youth development program to help inspire Native youth in Southeast Alaska to help reach their full potential
  • Sealaska is a leader in developing local entrepreneurship through its Spruce Roots program focused on sustainable economies
