Ethel Lund, former Sealaska Director, is honored at the 2017 AFN Convention
Participation in AFN provides Sealaska with a forum to address statewide issues of concern to the Alaska Native community, as well as to highlight issues specific to Southeast Alaska.

Sealaska has been a long-standing member of the Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN). Participation in AFN provides Sealaska with a forum to address statewide issues of concern to the Alaska Native community, as well as to highlight issues specific to Southeast Alaska. It allows us to be a part of the dialogue as AFN defines the annual priorities of the organization that will be presented to the State and to the Federal government. As Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian people, we have a long history of political engagement and advocacy, and AFN is a strong partner in continuing the important mission of advocacy on behalf of our Native people. Every year prior to AFN, Alaskans gather to dialogue and lift up Native youth, strengthened by the wisdom of elders, at the First Alaskans Institute (FAI) Elders & Youth Conference. Join Sealaska at both events in person or online October 15-20.

Two years ago, Alaska Native language revitalization activists, learners, teachers and elders penned the Alaska Native Language Summit. Because we are on Dena’ina land in 2018, this gathering is Huch’itidulq’uł: We Begin Building a Fire for Ourselves.
