“Having started as an accounting intern for Sealaska, it is very
rewarding to work as the headquarters controller helping to meet the
company’s goals and objectives. I was taught to respect our Native
values and to work to help other people succeed.”
Vicki Soboleff is the granddaughter of Vesta Johnson, whose Haida name was Saandlanaay. Vicki’s Haida name is Hiilunjaat and Tlingit names are Kukak from the Kiks.ádi Sun House and Shxaasti from the Kiks.ádi Clay House.
Born
in Seattle, WA, Vicki moved to Ketchikan, AK in 1967. In
1999, she joined Sealaska as a corporate accountant. She returned to
work for Sealaska in 2003 as the senior corporate accountant and has
since been promoted to headquarters controller.
Vicki is the leader of the Ldakát Naax Satí Yátx’i
dance group, a local children’s Southeast Alaska Native dance group
formed in 1995 to teach Alaska Native youth about their culture and to
promote self-esteem, self-confidence and leadership.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with accounting emphasis from the University of Alaska-Southeast.
