Neely Perisich

neely_web.jpgThis summer, Neely Perisich interned at Sealaska Heritage Institute (SHI) in the education department.

One major project she worked on was putting together a book for SHI’s Celebration event. This project consisted of working with Elders to identify individuals in photos from Celebration. Perisich enjoyed the project because it gave her the opportunity to work with Elders. This is an important project and she is happy to be part of the process, she said.

Perisich was born and raised in Juneau, Alaska. She is the daughter of Henrietta Peterson of Douglas and Phil Perisich of Portland, Oregon. Her grandparents are Henry and Mary Peterson. Perisich is half Tlingit of the Iskataan Clan. Her Tlingit name is Kineey Gweik’.

Perisich attends Portland State University where she is finishing up her fourth year studying social science. She plans to come back to Alaska and work with Alaska Native organizations after she graduates.
