Marjorie Young joined the Sealaska Board of Directors in 1979. She was chair of the Board from 1996 to 2000. She is currently the chair of the Compensation Committee, and is a member of the Finance Committee and the Nominations Committee. She also serves as director of Nypro Kánaak Iowa and Sealaska Timber Corporation.
Marge is the mother of five adult children and graduated from Griffin Murphy Business School and Washington State University. She is the owner of the Craig Bar & Liquor Store, Inc. and Thompson House Real Estate. Marge grew up in the world of business. As a young girl she used to help out at Thompson Dry Goods, the store her mother and father owned in Craig, especially around the holidays. "I think that's where I developed my interest in working with and for the public."
Years of running a retail and wholesale business in a Southeast economic hotspot like Craig have been useful as a board member. "I have promoted the development of industries that will bring good returns to Sealaska so we can pay good dividends to shareholders. Also, I have worked to grow the company by diversification in order to be able to compensate in one field if the other is experiencing a downturn."
Marge would not claim any one Sealaska achievement as her own. "I was always a team player, both as support to Sealaska management and the Sealaska board."
"I am committed to the growth and protection of the shareholder Permanent Fund in order to guarantee continuing dividends for generations to come."
Marge is a member of the Haida Nation, Eagle Tribe and Frog Clan, and her Haida name is Tí¡al Kitgaat.
