Show your support for Sealaska's land legislation, S. 730 and H.R. 1408, by sending a message to your congressinal delegation.

I am writing to express my strong support for the Sealaska land legislation, which will finalize the transfer of 85,000 acres promised to the corporation under the 1971 Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA).

I support this legislation because it will:

Support Southeast communities by preserving existing jobs and creating new jobs
Have a positive economic impact on Southeast Alaska, which already suffers from high unemployment and outmigration from rural villages
Protect and preserve conservation areas and watersheds important to local communities and the region

The purpose of ANCSA was to restore and create new economic opportunities and cultural connections for the Native populations of Alaska through the return of lands taken from them by the federal government during the early period of statehood.

It’s time for the U.S. government to fulfill the promise it made to Southeast Alaska Natives 40 years ago.
