Home > Who We Are > Campaigns > LandlessWhen ANCSA was enacted in 1971, five Southeast Alaska communities—Haines, Tenakee Springs, Petersburg, Wrangell and Ketchikan—were excluded from corporation status and therefore were not granted title to any lands, including traditionally inhabited lands. Senator Lisa Murkowski and Representative Don Young have both introduced legislation in the U.S. Congress that calls for recognition of landless communities under ANCSA.The Sealaska Board of Directors strongly supports the landless communities and Sealaska has contributed approximately $1 million in financial support, technical and legal assistance, backing efforts to gain ANCSA corporate status for Haines, Tenakee, Petersburg, Wrangell and Ketchikan. Sealaska has been working with the landless coalition since 1998 and continues to push Congress to amend ANCSA in this regard. The landless communities have created an organized coalition to develop a unified goal and strategy, the Southeast Alaska Landless Corporation. Landless community representatives need current contact information for landless Sealaska shareholders. Due to Sealaska's privacy policy, we are unable to release shareholder information without permission. Sealaska has contacted its landless shareholders for their permission to release this information.
