Kevin Skeek

kevin_web.jpgKevin Skeek was an intern at Sealaska’s Corporate Communication office where he worked with Director of Corporate Communications Todd Antioquia.

As an intern, Skeek was given the opportunity to attend this year’s annual meeting in Anchorage. Skeek also updated shareholder-owned business information, gathered bios and conducted interviews for the Shareholder newsletter, and worked on new enrollments after this summer’s passage of resolutions.

Throughout the duration of his internship, Skeek learned a lot about the Native Corporation. “I wanted to intern at Sealaska because I didn’t know what Sealaska was about. At first I thought it was a Corporation that my parents belonged to and they looked forward to receiving their checks but that was all I knew. Working here has shown me that Sealaska is more then that. Sealaska is about the future and the past. We have teams working in both directions. Working on preserving the past and also making sure that our Corporation is here for many generations to come, and a great example of that was working on passing the resolutions for Leftouts and descendants, now my children will become shareholders and that gives them entitlement to the land which is most important!”

Skeek grew up in Hoonah, Alaska and is the son of Wilbur and Gladys Skeek. His grandparents are William and Martha Davis, and Richard and Deborah Dalton. Skeek is one-quarter Tlingit and one-quarter Inupiaq Eskimo. He is an eagle of the Chookaneidi Clan. His Tlingit name is Kaadoshtoo, which comes from the Xaai hit of the cedar house.

Skeek is a junior at the University of Alaska-Southeast Juneau campus, where he pursues a degree in business administration with an emphasis in marketing. Post graduation, Skeek’s plans are divided. He plans to either go to law school or remain at University of Alaska and work towards a master’s degree. Overall, he intends to stay in the Southeast region and work for Sealaska or Huna Totem Corporation.
