Janine Roddey

janine.jpgThis summer Janine Roddey traveled to Fort Collins, Colorado to intern at Managed Business Solutions (MBS). Working in the Human Resources division, Roddey was involved in an assortment of projects, including benchmarking research, where she looked at how much money the average person makes in a certain job position in different locations, researched labor laws in Singapore, and a number of daily office projects.

Overall, Roddey enjoyed her experience working at MBS. “I chose to do an internship in the human resources department because they are the backbone of any organization, and I wanted to experience and become familiar with the organizational part of a corporation before I ventured into other departments. I believe that the lessons that I have learned during this internship will stay with me, and will help me as I continue to pursue my goals.”

Roddey discovered the internship after browsing a Sealaska newsletter online. “I really wanted to go to Alaska and learn more about my heritage, and I found a little blurb about a few students that had done internships through Sealaska who had a great time and learned a lot. I decided to apply because it seemed like such a great opportunity!”

Roddey grew up in Poulsbo, a town in northwestern Washington. She is the daughter of Thomas and Dona Roddey, and granddaughter of John and Barbara Bella and Thomas and Glenda Borland. Her great-grandparents are Victor and Evelyn Edenso.

Janine is a senior at University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash., where she is working towards a bachelor’s degree in politics and government, with an emphasis in international relations.
