In 1980, at the first Sealaska Elders Conference, our wise, traditional leaders told us that their hands were growing weary of holding "this container of wisdom." They were transferring the responsibility of perpetuating our culture to the Corporation.
Our Elders have always fought for future generations, therefore we are driven by our responsibility to future generations of Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian people. We work for our Elders, for our young people and for those yet to be born.
This philosophy was manifested most recently when shareholders passed the descendants and Leftouts resolutions. In June of 2007, shareholders voted to issue life estate shares to eligible descendants of original shareholders, as well as to Leftouts. To learn more about the resolutions and the history behind them, please visit our Haa Shuká Videos page, where you can view two videos that Sealaska produced for shareholders.
