Home > Operations and Investments > Services > Synergy Systems > Sealaska HR Manager Earns Senior Professional in Human Resources Certification Ken Southerland, Sealaska Corporation human resources manager, has achieved his Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification from the Human Resources Certification Institute. The HRCI is recognized as an international leader in HR certification. “I’m very pleased to have successfully completed the SPHR certification,” said Southerland. “My goal is to ensure Sealaska employees have trusted expertise within our HR department. I’m proud of my professional achievement and to join the ranks of others who also have achieved SPHR. We have a dedicated group of employees at Sealaska and it has been a pleasure assisting the Corporation with building a strong team.” Southerland joined Sealaska as the human resources manager in 2004. He graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in human resources. Prior to Sealaska, Southerland worked for the State of Alaska holding a variety of human resource positions, including personnel officer for the Department of Environmental Conservation and for the Department of Fish and Game. According to HRCI, there are nearly 800 registered SHRM members in Alaska and approximately 16% have earned their SPHR credentials. Southerland is a former Sealaska intern. He is Raven/Deisheetan (Beaver) and originally from Angoon, Alaska.
