Sealaska tribal member shareholders who enrolled with LifeLock identity theft services in 2008 are being notified that their service agreement has expired. Enrollees have the option to renew their subscription at their own expense and will receive a 25% discount from LifeLock under Sealaska’s original agreement.
In July 2008, Sealaska encouraged tribal member shareholders to enroll in identity theft prevention services through LifeLock under a Sealaska paid contract. “There was an unfortunate theft of some Sealaska computer equipment that led to offering identity theft service as a precaution to tribal member shareholders,” said Todd Antioquia, Sealaska director of corporate communications. “We knew a data breach was unlikely but wanted to provide every assurance to concerned shareholders that they would be protected.”
“LifeLock, through its monitoring, has no indication shareholder data was ever compromised. Sealaska believes protecting your identity is important, and we encourage shareholders to shop for identity theft protection services. Sealaska believes continuing the LifeLock service contract we originated is not necessary based on the 2008 incident. Shareholders may wish to continue the service for other reasons.”
Tribal member shareholders who chose to enroll in LifeLock under the Sealaska agreement were mailed a letter on April 2010 from LifeLock notifying their service was expiring. Those who did not respond to the letter are now being notified by a “robo” call from LifeLock. The recorded message states that there’s “…a problem with the coverage” and a toll free phone number is provided.
Tribal member shareholders who wish to have LifeLock services continue can elect to extend their coverage at their own expense. LifeLock is offering tribal member shareholders a discount of 25% when they renew the service over the phone. Shareholders can renew LifeLock services over the web at www.lifelock.com, but the 25% discount will not be available.
