Sealaska Honored for Supporting NCAI Embassy of Tribal Nations

1.jpgA permanent home for the National Congress of American Indians and Tribal Organizations was celebrated in November 2009.  The National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) opened the Embassy of Tribal Nations in the nation’s capital.

A Gala Open House celebrating the event was held November 3rd in Washington, DC.  Sealaska was honored at the event for their financial contribution to the Embassy of Tribal Nations.

According to NCAI, the embassy will provide tribal leaders and representatives with a central working location for a strengthened and coordinated advocacy effort. NCAI kicked off a capital campaign in 2004 with a goal of raising $12 million to establish the embassy.

Since 1944, NCAI has worked to inform the public and Congress on the governmental rights of American Indians and Alaska Natives. NCAI has grown over the years to include 250 member tribes throughout the United States.
