Doyon Passes Descendants and Elders Resolutions

On Friday, March 16, shareholders of Doyon, Ltd. voted to issue new stock to descendants born after 1992, and additional shares to Elders who turned 65 after 1992. Doyon shareholders had previously voted to issue shares to descendants, but only to those born between 1971 and 1992.

The keynote address at the annual meeting stressed that Doyon values the preservation of its culture more than the value of its stock, according to an article in the Anchorage Daily News. The resolutions passed later that evening by an overwhelming margin: 82 percent for the descendants resolution and 85 percent for the Elders resolution.

Doyon, Ltd. is the Native Corporation for the Fairbanks region.
