Sealaska Accepting Applications for Board Youth Advisor Position
Sealaska shareholder Alysha Guthrie has gained a new perspective about Sealaska over the last seven months. She is serving as the board youth advisor until June 2014. “Sealaska exists because of those who fought for our rights to our land,” said Guthrie. “We have passionate leadership on the board and each director brings so much to the table.”
The board youth advisor position was established in 2009. Sealaska is guided by Native values such as sharing knowledge between generations. Through the experience, participants like Guthrie will develop leadership skills and corporate boardroom experience.
“We couldn’t be happier with the quality of applicants and young shareholders appointed to serve through the Sealaska Board Youth Advisor program,” said Sealaska Board Chair Albert Kookesh. “It’s very exciting to see young talent like Alysha contributing. We have great confidence in the future of Sealaska and the Native community with such outstanding youth leaders.”
Added Guthrie, “I have left the boardroom feeling inspired after sitting at the table and listening to them speak. Sealaska provides amazing pportunities for young people. I’m so thankful I have taken advantage of many of them.”
